The Moen 1423 is a genuine Moen replacement balancing spool used for single-handle Moentrol tub and shower faucets. Its function is to balance the hot and cold water pressure, which prevents sudden temperature changes (known as “shower shock”).

Balancing Spool for Moen Faucets

The balancing spool ensures consistent water temperature by equalizing the pressure of the incoming hot and cold water supplies. A stuck or faulty spool can lead to problems controlling water temperature or result in only hot or cold water flow.
It is designed specifically for use with Moen Moentrol single-handle tub and shower faucets and valves (e.g., models 3150, 3170, 3175, and 3189). It replaces OEM part number 132343.
